February's Book Club - 'The Secret Life of Bees' by Sue Monk Kidd

Happy New Year everyone. I trust you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas break and holiday season and now the year is certainly in full swing.

Sadly for our beautiful cities of Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba and our fellow country neighbours of the Lockyer Valley, Grantham, Gatton, Dalby and Murphy Creek and the rest of our beautiful Sunshine State who were devastated by the recent floods, it was not the best way to begin 2011, and I'd like to send well wishes and prayers to all who lost loved ones or were affected by these floods.

It is difficult to express through words the pain, sadness and upset that we feel during times of such devastation, however the hearts of all Australians have opened up once again and there is now an outpouring of love, generosity and kindness which continues to spill where the waters now recede. Great acts of kindness are now the heartbeat of our great nation as everyone pulls together to make a difference. It makes you proud to be an Australian.

I hope that you have all enjoyed reading this month's book, 'The Secret Life of Bees'. I've seen the movie and thoroughly enjoyed the book. It has much to offer. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts, and hearing your discussion on the first Wednesday of February (2/2/11). Rescheduled to Thursday (3/2/11) due to unforeseen circumstances.

Please remember to bring along two recommendations to nominate for our 2011 reading schedule.

You are welcome to bring along a small plate of goodies to share. Come along and help celebrate the new year and our first book club for 2011. I will provide refreshments.

Book club starts 7:30pm sharp and finishes at 9:30pm.

I look forward to seeing you, but until then,

Happy reading...
